Roger Preston & Partners was one of the founding organisations when BREEAM was developed in the UK more than 15 years ago. Since then, Roger Preston & Partners have carried out BREEAM assessments on scores of new buildings in the UK, and worked alongside the BRE in undertaking some of the first BREEAMs in Europe.
Introduction of BREEAM in Use
Last year the BRE introduced ‘BREEAM in Use’, which is specifically designed to assess the operation and management of existing buildings. Roger Preston & Partners were one of the first consultancies to gain a licence to undertake the new ‘BREEAM in Use’ assessments and have been assisting Grontmij in expanding this expertise throughout their European offices.
As a result, Grontmij have now won contracts to undertake Europe-wide assessments on existing building stock for the Dutch based property investment companies, VastNed and ING Real Estate Investment Management (REIM).
Seminar focusing on lessons learned
These major contract wins led to Ad van Driel, Director of Business Development, organising a one day seminar for Grontmij’s BREEAM assessors. Attended by assessors from Roger Preston & Partners and most of the Grontmij European offices. discussions focussed on lessons learned from projects to date.
Martin Ratcliffe a senior environmental consultant and BREEAM assessor for Roger Preston & Partners commented that, “These kinds of sessions are invaluable and really help to make sure that we are giving the client the best possible service”.
The VastNed and ING REIM assessments will be coordinated by Jan Roersen from the Grontmij Netherlands office.
