Roger Preston & Partners provided full mechanical and electrical consultancy design services on the refurbishment project including vertical transportation and fire engineering.
Combining contemporary feel with original features
The original office building dates from 1956 and, like many buildings of its time, did not meet the needs of today’s office occupiers. The scheme rationalised the existing building configuration and added in an additional 4,100
m² of lettable space. The façades were also modernised to provide greater daylight and a more contemporary feel without losing the original Portland stone features. A key success of the refurbishment was the integration of air conditioning and raised floors within the existing constrained 3.2m floor-to-floor height and still being able to offer ceiling heights of 2.5m.
The building now offers around 20,000
m² of modern, fully serviced office accommodation arranged around an attractive central atrium. Nick Bullen, project director for Roger Preston & Partners commented, ‘’We are extremely pleased to see another Roger Preston & Partners’ project recognised in this way and hope we are successful at the awards ceremony in late April’’.
