MORE AWARDS FOR ROGER PRESTON & PARTNERS

21 October 2009

Elliott More, a graduate engineer at Roger Preston & Partners, has won an award in the Hermes Real Estate RE-Design Challenge Competition 2009.
Hermes Real Estate launched a competition for students and sustainability experts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from existing commercial buildings. The competition was divided into four categories with Elliott winning the Best Practical Quick Wins category.

Reducing energy use

On finding out he had won, Elliott remarked, "I am delighted to have won an award for my entry into this competition. I am confident that my solution will help Hermes achieve their objective of reducing energy use and carbon emissions from their existing building stock and hope that the lessons they learn can be shared across the industry."

Communication is key

Elliott's entry focuses on the importance of reducing energy usage, with high efficiency systems and intelligent design. However, he also makes the point that the solution to reducing the carbon dioxide output of a building lies within overcoming the social issues related to energy use rather than the technical hurdles. This can be seen when offices are overheated, which often results in tenants opening windows rather than communicating the problem to the landlord's building manager.

"Very proud"

Geoffrey Palmer, Director at Roger Preston & Partners, commented, "We feel very strongly that environmentally friendly and sustainable building schemes should be adopted wherever possible and this is a core value of our design teams. We are obviously very proud that Elliott More, one of our graduate engineers, has adopted this philosophy and that his work has been recognised.

"Since his employment in 2007, Elliott has shown great potential and become a valuable asset to the company. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on the award”.
