51 LIME STREET MEETS MAYOR’S TARGETS

30 July 2007

The British Land developed 51 Lime Street has achieved an excellent BREEAM rating and, as it reaches completion, has been acclaimed by London’s Mayor Ken Livingston.

The building which will be the new home for the insurer Willis, was designed by Foster and Partners with the key services engineering, energy and sustainability roles undertaken by Roger Preston & Partners.

The building’s striking design and shading have been influenced by the need to reduce summer heat gains to the building. An optimised combination of motorised blinds within a triple-skin ventilated façade and high performance clear glazing across the various orientations neutralises to a high degree the effects of summertime solar overheating. High efficiency lighting combined with daylight and occupancy sensing; further reduce the heat build up in the office areas. These measures allied to heat recovery and the use of high efficiency engineering plant, has allowed the building to achieve a substantial reduction in the level of CO2 emissions beyond the statutory requirements.

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone has recently been quoted as saying he would like to see more “greenscrapers” like the Willis Building.

Roger Preston & Partners and Roger Preston Environmental continue to develop projects that exceed both energy and sustainability targets whilst generating extremely marketable projects for our clients.
