| Roger
Preston Dynamics, the specialist people and goods movement division
of Roger Preston & Partners, has recently been appointed
as the vertical transportation consultant for the second of
the proposed Armani hotels due to be opened across the world
during the next few years.

|
The project, a Joint Venture between Giorgio Armani S.p.A.
and EMAAR Hotels & Resorts LLC, is located on the
historic Via Manzoni in Milan, one of Italy’s most
prestigious districts.
The development is challenging in all aspects, comprising
as it does the redevelopment and extension of an existing
building to provide 15,000m2 of luxury, bespoke hotel
accommodation whilst retaining a fully operational environment
for the retail and leisure facilities currently located
at Ground and basement levels.
The brief extends to the surveying of the existing lifts,
development of a scheme design incorporating some 13 lifts,
performance specification, technical procurement support
and on-site commissioning and witness testing. Key to
the delivery of a successful lifting strategy will be
the appropriate use of machine-room-less lift technology
to maximise lift car sizes within the constraints of the
existing building structure. Consideration is also being
given to the use of ‘counterweightless’ technology.
Project manager is Bovis Lend Lease and start on site
is currently scheduled for November 2006.
