MOMENTUM GATHERS AT POWER STATION

1 August 2005

On 11th July 2005, there was a major step forward on Battersea Power Station Redevelopment when the first three tranches of Reserved Matters Applications were submitted for listed building consent.
The latest set in the sequence of more than sixty planning applications have been lodged for the development of the Battersea Power Station site. This latest set of applications however moves the development into a new phase as approval is necessary to enable construction on the 38 acre site to commence. This is one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the capital.

The applications, which have been lodged with Wandsworth Council, include detailed designs for essential ground works, infrastructure and landscaping, submissions on construction methods and plans for work on the Power Station chimneys and wash towers.

Talking about applications, Michael Roberts, CEO of Parkview International said
“We have always recognised the full complexity of what is necessary to complete the planning and approval process that governs our progress to completing the work. We are meeting that challenge and today’s announcement signals our on-going commitment to deal with the issues involved in bringing this important London icon back to life and our readiness to move forward”

Roger Preston and Partners have been responsible for the engineering and infrastructure services advice and design for all of these elements.

The final submission was for the re-building of the chimneys and a re-fit of the Power Station wash towers. In respect to this building, the jewel of the site, Roger Preston is responsible for all aspects of the engineering services and environmental design philosophy to renovate and invigorate this grade II listed building.
