Roger Preston Fire

Roger Preston Fire is an independent division operating within the Roger Preston & Partners Group. The division undertakes complete fire strategies for the building design to meet statutory approval for the safety of its occupants. It provides consultancy and design for fire engineering as stand-alone commissions as well as providing a specialised advisory service for appointments undertaken by Roger Preston & Partners.

The Group has undertaken many thousands of projects and has worked in over 60 countries worldwide.

Roger Preston Fire maintains a close and reciprocal working relationship with regulators and research establishments. Roger Preston Fire is able to bring a comprehensive understanding of Codes and Practices pertaining to the development of building design.

The prescriptive route to building design is often adequate however, when this route is unlikely to provide a workable solution, we are able to customise advice towards the best solution for the building. This is part of what we see as the evolutionary process of design. Today's innovation often becomes tomorrow's accepted practice and part of revised Codes of Practice.

Fire Strategies

Roger Preston Fire has successfully negotiated innovative fire engineered solutions with the relevant authorities on projects worldwide. Our experience in developing complete Fire Strategies for projects include High Rise, Atria, Transport Terminals, Exhibition Spaces, Leisure Complexes, Retail and Hotels. We are frequently involved in refurbishment of existing and listed buildings. We have an excellent working relationship with the Regulatory Bodies.

The development of a detailed fire engineering strategy is an essential element of building design. The project can then proceed in the knowledge that it will be safe and will meet the approval of Statutory Authorities.

Elements of a fire strategy study include the following:
Risk Assessment
Means of Escape
Safety of Escape Routes
Smoke Control
Stability of structure in the event of fire
Automatic Fire Fighting Systems
Alarm and detection systems
Access for Fire Fighting Personnel
Firefighting facilities for trained personnel and fire brigade
Internal fire spread
External fire spread
Property protection
Fire safety management

Model Testing

Roger Preston Fire often calls upon the resources of the Roger Preston Environmental Systems Department (ESD) experienced in modelling the effects of fire and smoke by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) .

CFD harnesses the fundamental equations of fluid flow including smoke and heat transfer to solve complex inter-relationships involving velocities, temperatures, pressures and concentrations in 2, 3 or 4 dimensions,

i. e. 3D space and time.

Roger Preston Fire undertakes computer modelling of evacuation times for complex buildings. Profile modelling takes into account the effects of fire and different reaction and response times.
