Roger Preston Environmental

Roger Preston Environmental is a specialist division of Roger Preston & Partners that provides expert advice on all aspects of sustainable design within the built
environment.

Underlying our service is the belief that intelligent design is the mechanism through which sustainable principles are translated into practical, cost-effective solutions that
satisfy the aspirations of owners, occupiers and future generations.

Our service is based on:

In-depth analysis of building form and environment
Extensive knowledge of modern construction materials and processes
An understanding of the advantages and limitations of both passive and active systems
Computer modelling of facades, air movement, temperature and contaminant distribution
Wide experience of every type of energy source and building services system

Bringing these factors together with a real understanding of both client and user requirements results in buildings and environments that can satisfy all stakeholders.

Comfort Matters

In addition to the obvious advantages of improved occupant health, contentment and workplace harmony, authoritative studies show that better Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) makes sound financial sense through reduction in absenteeism and increased productivity.

Roger Preston Environmental has the software tools and expertise to evaluate every type of building and ensure that IEQ solutions are both effective and affordable. Typically, such assessments include analysis of year round thermal and visual comfort, using 3-D virtual models in conjunction with benchmarking against industry best practice and client targets. In addition to being highly skilled in the application of these analytical techniques, our engineers can draw on years of experience in designing for occupant comfort, thus blending theoretical knowledge with a real understanding of its practical application.

Leaders In Sustainable Building

Buildings have a major impact on the natural environment and governments are, understandably, introducing ever more regulations to promote the principle of sustainability.

Our engineers have for many years led the way in promoting the best in sustainable design and have been responsible for, amongst others:

The world’s most energy efficient high-rise building
Harnessing of wind and solar power in urban environments
Developments with zero carbon emission

Every project has its own unique signature and, whereas tried and tested solutions are employed wherever appropriate, each case is evaluated on its merits in an endeavour to ensure optimal solutions.

Design Accreditation

Increasingly, buildings must not only be environmentally friendly but also able to demonstrate such through benchmarking against a range of sustainability targets, some of which are imposed by law.

We are registered assessors for the Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) and EcoHomes, which have established themselves as the UK’s de facto standard for measuring building sustainability. We are also able to evaluate buildings against the US LEED system of environmental measurement and have provided advice on the development of environmental assessment schemes in several countries around the world.

Many of our buildings have achieved the highest BREEAM and other environmental assessment ratings and our team of assessors offers practical and independent advice on building performance and labelling during all stages of a project.

An Essential Member Of Your Team

Sometimes it is difficult to get the right answers unless you know the questions.

We take an active role in helping establish the brief, presenting appropriate options and developing the design.

Working closely with architects and other members of the professional team is especially important in the development of sustainable buildings, so that the built form can be optimized in relation to the passive and active systems to be employed.

Our early involvement enables us to make a constructive contribution based on considered analysis of the available options and a detailed understanding of the client’s requirements.

Leading edge software forms part of our toolbox, allowing us to analyze ideas and ‘what if’ scenarios on 3-D virtual models of any building. Successfully applying these tools to deliver optimum results in the context of real construction projects is our trademark. This is achieved by experienced design engineers making use of modern software tools, rather than software specialists looking for applications.

Roger Preston Environmental is committed to delivering the sustainable buildings you want, within the commercial realities we must all recognize.
